Elaine Goble

Elaine Goble has been a professional artist for forty years. Her career has straddled two artistic worlds. She has a very successful and respected career as an egg tempera painter whose works are featured in numerous private and corporate collections, and as a contemporary Canadian War Artist.

For over a decade, Elaine worked on a series of 28 large-scale graphite drawings of veterans, Holocaust survivors and peace-keepers which now resides in the permanent collection of the Canadian War Museum. As well, her artistic response to the tragedy of the events of 9/11 in New York City was a ‘cri de coeur’ in oil and was featured in the Grand Hall at the museum from 2007 to 2009. Her work was exhibited at the McMichael Canadian Collection in Kleinburg, the Canadian War Museum, the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.

In 2005, Elaine was commissioned by the Royal Canadian Mint to design her internationally award-winning commemorative coin for the Year of the Veteran. The resulting thirty-million circulation quarter depicts the profiles of two veterans from different generations, joined by love of country.

Elaine was invited to take part in the Bravo television series ‘Star Portraits’. She did so for the opportunity to portray former Lieutenant-General and Senator Romeo Dallaire.  The portrait was chosen by National Library and Archives for their permanent collection, and was highlighted in their travelling exhibition, ‘Double Take’.

She is now working in partnership with the Canadian Agricultural Museum to produce a new series of egg tempera paintings featuring portraits of other notable individuals in service — those of Canadian livestock.
