Don’t let the rain keep you home today

March 25, 2017 Blog

I have to admit that it’s a rainy day in Toronto and a bit gloomy BUT, don’t let that stop you from coming out to 401 Richmond as there’s lots to see here today and all under one roof. This is the closing day of the exhibition for our guest artist Julie Himel. Julie will be in the gallery from 2 – 4 today to chat casually with you. This is also the final day for The Unconventionals, Ron Eady’s solo exhibition of figurative paintings and sculpture.

And in The Project Room, Tacit Bodies , our second exhibition for an OCAD graduating student has just opened. Alastair Martin is exhibiting large digital images and sculpture.

Tacit Bodies is a series of work that investigates the materiality of sculpture through different historical mediums. It positions damaged Hellenistic sculpture in relation to the two dimensionality of painting, and painting in turn, to the support structures of sculpture, architecture, and the exhibition space. Within this series, stone objects serve as votives to the absent physicality of the silhouettes, while the disfigured forms reference the delicate nature of the body and the complex history we have with objects.
