Super Bowl Sunday
As many of you know, the Super Bowl takes place on Sunday Feb. 5. We’ve got our own Super Bowl happening in the gallery window! It is Jennifer Walton’s wonderful painting depicting a group of children playing football on a snowy field.
New look at Canada AM including art from us!
The set of Canada AM has a new look and not only have they chosen a painting by Janice Mason Steeves for the set, but they also selected 10 sculptures by our artists including David Thai, Dorothy Wilde, Marguerite Broten, Shane Norrie, Don Dickson, Barbara Anderson and Willie Anicic. We’re thrilled!
Kingston prize on view now at the ROM
The biannual Kingston Prize is Canada’s only portrait competition, featuring contemporary paintings and drawings of Canadians by Canadian artists. An exhibition of the 30 finalists for this year is on view at the ROM until January 29, 2011. The competition is organized by the Kingston Arts Council, and the exhibition presented in cooperation with the Institute for Contemporary Culture at the ROM. Our own Jennifer Walton is a past finalist for the Kingston Prize. We are looking forward to new work by Jennifer very soon.

Lila Lewis Irving honoured at Art Gallery of Mississauga
The Art Gallery of Mississauga will hold a major retrospective for Lila Lewis Irving this spring. ‘Con Spirito’ opens on March 1 and continues for 2 months. Lila has told us that events are planned for each week of the exhibition and a book and video have been produced for the show. We will have copies of the book here as soon as it becomes available and will have more information on the show soon. Lila is an established abstract painter and her work is in collections all over the world. She studied with the noted abstract expressionist painter, Helen Frankenthaler. Lila’s paintings are intensely personal and emotional and show the experienced hand of a master colourist at work.
Heather Horton on the lecture circuit!
Heather will be giving a talk to the Burlington Fine Art Association in January and The University of Western Kentucky has invited Heather to speak there in the spring. Pretty exciting!
