Opening tonight, OCAD student Alastair Martin

March 23, 2017 Blog

Join us tonight from 5 – 8 pm for the opening of ‘Tacit Bodies’ our second exhibition as part of ‘Impulse Control’ the 2017 OCAD Sculpture/Installation Thesis exhibition. Artist Alastair Martin will be here for the opening. Alastair’s work comprises both sculpture and large format digital prints related to the sculpture. Here is his artist’s statement.

Tacit Bodies is a series of work that investigates the materiality of sculpture through different historical mediums. It positions damaged Hellenistic sculpture in relation to the two dimensionality of painting, and painting in turn, to the support structures of sculpture, architecture, and the exhibition space. Within this series, stone objects serve as votives to the absent physicality of the silhouettes, while the disfigured forms reference the delicate nature of the body and the complex history we have with objects.

Join us tonight to support this young artist. The exhibition continues until April 1.
