RON EADY
AVAILABLE ARTWORKS
Ron Eady was born in Toronto, in 1957. His art education began at a secondary school for the visual arts and continued at Sheridan College in Oakville with additional studies at The Ontario College of Art, Toronto.
In 2000 he became an elected member of The Ontario Society of Artists (O.S.A.)
Ron spent his formative years focused on drawing and painting. Over the past decade he has primarily painted with the encaustic medium, as well as sculpting in wood with the application of encaustic.
His works explore the feeling of unsettled or elusive imagery, whether itâs an industrial landscape, figurative work or organic formations, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty.
Working between two studios â one in Hamilton and one in Rosseau, Muskoka, Ontario â has inspired two separate yet complementary commentaries on landscape that are both urban & rural, industrial and natural.
Ronâs work has been featured in numerous publications. He has exhibited internationally and his paintings are held in collections in the USA, Canada, Japan and China.
In 2014, Abbozzo Gallery held an exhibition of Ronâs work titled âBilly Bishop Goes to Rosseauâ. Canadian pilot Billy Bishop was a highly decorated flying ace during the First World War. In the early 1920âs he and a fellow ace, William Barker started one of Canadaâs first commercial airline services. Using their Curtiss seaplane, they flew passengers from Toronto harbour to the Muskoka lakes and for sightseeing flights.
Bishop was married to the granddaughter of Timothy Eaton, founder of the Eatonâs department store chain. Bishop often flew family and friends to the Eatonâs cottage âKawandagâ on Lake Rosseau directly across the bay from Ron Eadyâs studio in Rosseau. While researching the local archives, Ron found images of Bishopâs plane in Rosseau Bay and one of the images showed Ronâs cottage in the background.
The exhibition was about not only Billy Bishop but also about Ron Eady and his connection to the Rosseau area where he and his family have their cottage, a business and Ronâs studio. The landscape there has often appeared in Eadyâs encaustic paintings, as have aviation themes.
