Ron spent his formative years focused on drawing and painting. Over the past decade he has primarily painted with the encaustic medium, as well as sculpting in wood with the application of encaustic.

To create his sculptures, he starts intuitively, working on the shape, embracing the character of the old wood beams, utilizing chainsaws, saws and chisels until an interesting personality emerges into the final form. Some of the paintings, like the sculptures, are depictions of imaginary characters that emerge through the working process. For others the starting point is based upon old black and white snapshots or personal photos which evolve into more imagined situations.

His works explore the feeling of unsettled or elusive imagery, whether it’s an industrial landscape, figurative work or organic formations, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty.
