HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN THE PUNK SCENE, WHAT YEAR? 1979 Mar 24 went to my 1st DOA gig BEST PUNK MEMORY? The music and the friends HAS PUNK CHANGED MUCH SINCE THE 80'S? , IF SO HOW? Yes it was “not going to last” but here we are. IS PUNK HERE TO STAY? Yes ‘cause where would it go? The first concert, DOA March 24, 1979 I did not take my camera. I looked around and said to myself. Hot damn I have found something to take photos of. I took a camera everywhere from then on. Black and white film with flash so I could shoot the bands and turn around and shoot the audience. My first show "1000 photos" was at the Unit Pitt Gallery on Pender Street in 1982. So everyone could see photos of themselves. The cover was shot by Alex Waterhouse Hayward, it was for an article in Vancouver Magazine and then used for the cover of DOA’s Lets Wreck the Party.
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN THE PUNK SCENE, WHAT YEAR? my mom bringing me to shows, back stage and sound checks at the commodore. DOA used to make a child sized shirt for me. BEST PUNK MEMORY? I was back stage at a Motorhead show with my mom. I was about 11 and Lemmy offered me a swig from his Jack Daniels bottle. My mom did not say anything but Lemmy noticed that she cringed. He leaned down and said “Did you notice that your mother just turned into a mother?”. Handing me the bottle, I took a swig off of Lemmy’s bottle! I will save the story of playing foam BB guns with the bass player of the Clash backstage, for another time. HAS PUNK CHANGED MUCH SINCE THE 80'S? , IF SO HOW? It went from raw power into Grunge, then mainstream. We still play punk in my band. IS PUNK HERE TO STAY? Only if bands play it and we keep listening to it. Oh and keep it off the radio!
