Wavelengths
Group Exhibtion 3 February - 25 March 2023Meet us on our wavelength. Abbozzo Gallery presents the Group Exhibition Wavelengths, a collection of work inspired by the intuitive and the innate, exemplary of the variety of what can be produced within the wavelengths of the visible colour spectrum. Featured are paintings and sculptures that speak to you silently in the way a familiar friend calls out with a wordless glance; all that is given and all that is needed is the outward expression of internal thought – in the universal language of art. Artists included are Lola Erhart, Delfina Gómez Marestaing, Celia Lees, Fabiana Salomao, Steven K. Tucker, and David Wilstermann, all exhibiting for the first time with Abbozzo Gallery. -

Closer
Duane Nickerson 2 December 2022 - 14 January 2023Nickerson’s work in his current exhibition is rooted in the tradition of landscape painting, a long and varied practice that extends to the dawn of human civilization and is featured prominently in the art making tradition of Canada. The uninhabited landscape is a key facet of Canadian identity, and it is becoming a prominent symbol for the global environmental movement. Our growing awareness that the human species faces hard limits to its growth and consumption makes Nickerson’s detailed paintings of tree trunks, roots and leaves poignant reminders of the fragility of life. -

OG Punk
Dina Goldstein 6 - 28 May 2022Part of the 2022 Scoatiabank Contact Photography Festival, Dina Goldstein's OG Punk speaks to the legacy of punk as an anarchistic, youth counterculture that rebelled against mainstream society. More an attitude than a movement, punk swept across the globe in the 1970s and was often motivated by urgent political concerns. An especially vibrant hardcore punk music scene flourished on the West Coast. Over the past year, Goldstein photographed key figures from the legendary punk rock scene of the 1980s and 1990s in Vancouver and Victoria. The portraits in OG Punk were made against a neutral studio backdrop, establishing a mood of theatrical artifice. -
