John Vitale

John Vitale (b. 1979) is a largely self-taught, multidisciplinary artist, as well as the founder, designer, and creative director of The Killing Floor Skateboards. Based in Brooklyn, NY, Vitale’s practice places a strong emphasis on abstract painting, drawing from early abstract expressionism, color field painting, the physicality of action painting, and the visual language of design—alongside the DIY skateboard culture that shaped his youth.

His background in design and his sensitivity to the psychological and emotional impact of visual language inform his approach to composition, color, and balance. Vitale’s work strives to find a space in between these vastly different worlds in which their energies can collide and reveal deeply personal narratives.

Vitale has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions across Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, New York City, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Kingston (NY), Taiwan, and Berlin. His work is held in public and private collections around the world.
