How got involved and what year: I was dating a guy and him and his friend said one day that I needed to listen to this band, " Dayglo Abortions " They thought it was hilarious but brilliant and so did I! I was 15 and just a little stoner hippi island girl and as soon as I heard it, I was hooked. Fast forward a year and I m walking down the street with my friend and this truck pulls up beside us and these guys ask us if we want to smoke a joint? Well of course! We are hanging out and it gets brought up that they are in a band. " Oh,ya. What band?" " Dayglo Abortions " HA! I ended up dating Brian and through him met so many people and was exposed to so much kick ass music. I kept borrowing his skateboard to go to the store for munchies that I finally just got my own. Punk music and Skateboarding became a huge part of my life and ended up connecting me with people i never would have met. People that helped me get through those awkward and challenging years as a young naive girl becoming a strong informed , take no shit woman. This was in 1986. Best punk memory: I moved into the house on Carey street with Randy Stubbs, Trevor Hagen, Scott Henderson and Jesus Bonehead. Obviously young and not having heard a lot of punk...I asked Scott if he could make me a mixed tape with " Fetus a Fetus" on one side and whatever he thought I should check out on the other. Blew my mind! Butthole Surfers " the shaw sleeps in lee Harvey's grave", Big Black, " Kerosene " to name a few. I have told this story to so many people over the years because it was life changing. Has punk changed: I think the attitude and the message hasn't changed, but because the pioneers of it have now become mentors and parents that it has grown...if that makes sense? Is punk here to stay: I think that " Punk" has always and will always be here. Anywhere and anytime that there is oppression, ignorance, intolerance and fucking stupidity....some punk will be there to question and fight it !
