Wallflowers: David Wilstermann
-
A self-proclaimed introvert (or wallflower), Wilstermann’s practice acts as an outward exploration of quiet introspection and vivid imagination.
-
David Wilstermann's spontaneous, playful and confident work - a combination of gestural mark-making, painting and drawing - results in captivating compositions imbued with movement and texture. Wilstermann's work expands the possibilities of abstraction, incorporating recognizable motifs which are often derived from nature, such as wispy, whimsical flowers, rays of light, suggestions of rain, rainbows and clouds and perhaps a hint of a horizon. Wallflowers is a collection of bright, vibrant works that have been building in Wilstermann’s imagination, slowly making their way onto canvas. This series of dreamscapes evokes a sense of surreal peace and mystery for viewers to absorb, demonstrating his evolving practice. One that he will continue to pursue in the hopes of never finding a destination but enjoying the journey every step of the way.
