Recovering My Humanity: Heather Horton | Feature Gallery Exhibition
-
Abbozzo Gallery is proud to present a collection of recent works by California-based, Canadian painter, Heather Horton. Horton’s practice has often been focused on texture and material studies, being well-known for her technical, loose-brushstroke depictions of figures within, amongst or through textiles and water, such as The Corvid and Saying Goodbye to Wyll.
Painting for Horton is also often a cathartic experience, allowing her to work through intense emotions and experiences, and by doing so, imbuing the artwork with a profound vulnerability: such as her pink-faced self-portrait After Visiting Mum, 1. Throughout her oeuvre, and working from photo reference, Horton has always brought forth a factual, almost point-of-view perspective that gives the work a personal affect, a visual diary to the artist’s experience that endears us to her vision.- Blake Zigrossi, Associate Director
