The Book of Waves: Vladimir Kanic
Vladimir Kanic: The Book of Waves
November 5th 2021 – May 2022
This winter, we’re excited to be hosting the newest work by Vladimir Kanic, a multi- disciplinary artist who works with fine art, science and technology; ‘The Book of Waves’, his latest exhibition, is a series of bioart sculptures made primarily from algae. Due to algae’s ability to retain carbon dioxide (equivalent to the capabilities of hundres of trees), and their ability to capture harmful molecular toxins such as nitrogen and sulphur oxides, and convert them into clean breathable air, the artist envisages the installation of these sculptures on a large scale in polluted urban areas in order to combat global climate change.
Vladimir Kanic presents us with an experimental glimpse into a more sustainable future with his original creations: breathable sculptures. Kanic combines natural biological processes with an unnusually beautiful outer shell of bioplastic, resulting in an algae farm that is able to recycle the oxygen in any given space. These works are mysterious and gorgeuous, as they posses organic shapes and materials coupled with modern technological fixtures that truly make each sculpture stand out no matter what other artworks surround it.
